‘They are dancing on the graves of our people’ – Wandayi on PS Omollo’s homecoming ceremony in Homa Bay

Ugunja Member of Parliament (MP) and minority leader Opiyo Wandayi has weighed in on Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo’s homecoming ceremony which will be held at Oriwo Boys secondary school in Homa Bay county.
While addressing the press at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) on Saturday, July 15, 2023, Wandayi lamented that the expected homecoming is a ‘mockery’ to those who lost their lives to anti-government protests.
He also claimed that the homecoming ceremony which will be graced by State dignitaries such as President William Ruto is blatant ignorance of the ongoing ‘instigated’ tribal warfare between the Kalenjin and the Luos in Sondu, Nyakach.
“As we speak they are partying in Homa Bay, they are hold up somewhere in Kanyipir Homa Bay county celebrating. They are essentially dancing on the graves of our people,” he stated.
“Ruto and his surrogates in this region are essentially dancing on the graves of our sons and daughters who have been killed by police bullets basically those who were shot at on Wednesday in Kisumu and also those who were shot at and attacked by people in Sondu; We have multiple cases arising from the demonstrations in Kisumu and also arising from the instigated tribal warfare that is currently underway in Sondu, Nyakach, so we are very saddened about the leadership in this region,” he added.
Wandayi, while expressing shock, also called out law enforcement officers for using excessive force on peaceful protesters.
He subsequently vowed that the protests will continue and that no intimidation from the State will deter them from voicing their concerns.
The latest comes amidst damning allegations made by a section of politicians allied to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
The aforementioned leaders had alleged that leaders from the Azimio la Umoja -One Kenya coalition were planning to disrupt the PS’s homecoming ceremony.
They specifically claimed that the opposition’s plan to hold a rally at Nyamasaria Bus park at the same time as the homecoming is a move to cause mayhem.
