Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba is mounting pressure on Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja over the new wave of abductions that has been reported in the country.

This is after Kanja denied any involvement of police in the abductions.

Raking to his official X account on Thursday, December 26, 2024, Wamuchomba questioned whether Kenyans could assume that terrorists are back in the country if IG Kanja says he doesn’t know who is abducting the Kenyan youth.

Wamuchomba further stated that the police through the IG has fully inflicted a self indictment and an express statement of failure to protect Kenyans.

“If the Inspector General of the Kenyan Police doesn’t know who is abducting our Children and where they are taken; could we assume that terrorists are back in our streets ? The police through the IG has FULLY inflicted a SELF indictment and an express statement of Failure to protect KENYANS. Citizens can now defend themselves anyway. Where are our Missing Children?” Wamuchomba stated.

IG Kanja on abductions

IG Kanja dismissed allegations linking police officers to the recent wave of abductions targeting young Kenyans.

In a statement on Thursday, December 26, Kanja assured the public that no police station in the country is holding any individuals reported as abducted.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the National Police Service is not involved in any abductions, and there is no police station in the country detaining the reported abductees,” he said.

The police boss further said that while Kenya is a democratic nation that upholds freedom of expression, such freedoms must be exercised responsibly.

“Freedom comes with limitations and should always be exercised with utmost responsibility,” he added.

The Inspector General urged Kenyans to refrain from spreading false information, warning that misinformation could escalate tensions.

Several Kenyan youth have been reported missing after making social media posts that targeted at criticizing President William Ruto.

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah who has since condemned the abductions, has appealed for public help in finding another youth who is the latest victim of the new wave of abductions.

Taking to his official X account on Thursday, December 26, 2024, Omtatah asked any Kenyan who might be having information on the whereabouts of social media user @Kibet_bull to come forward.
