Wamuchomba cites coffee price surge as reason to back Ruto’s re-election
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, April 10, 2026Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni wa Muchomba has publicly justified her call for President William Ruto to continue his leadership beyond the 2027 general election, arguing that the ongoing economic reforms, particularly in the agricultural sector, are already yielding tangible benefits for farmers.
In a statement on her X handle on Friday, April 10, 2026, Wamuchomba has cited a dramatic increase in coffee earnings, saying that coffee cherries have increased in price since the current government assumed office, from as low as Ksh11 per kilogram to as high as Ksh155 per kilogram.
She argues that such gains represent the kind of structural change that should continue to grow beyond one term.
William Ruto must continue this good work beyond 2027. The price of coffee cherries has risen from Ksh11 per kilo to Ksh155. This is happening in real life, not on social media. This outcome is what I was pushing for. Two terms for President Ruto,” Wamuchomba stated.

The lawmaker has pointed out that the effects of these kinds of changes aren’t just theoretical or political talk; they are actually happening to farmers in coffee-growing areas. She suggested that the true economic indicators should be household income and farm output, not the raging online discussions occurring on social media.
Push for a second-term narrative
Connecting agricultural success to the continuity of governance in general, Muchomba has established herself as one of the leaders engaging in the promotion of the re-election of President Ruto in 2027.

As the political climate gradually intensifies in preparation for the upcoming election year, the discourse surrounding economic performance, especially in the agricultural sector, is expected to remain a key factor in shaping voter sentiments in the major agricultural regions.
