Wamalwa claims Boniface Mwangi’s saga is part of scheme to silence opposition

By , July 19, 2025

Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has added his weight following a raid and search at Boniface Mwangi’s home and offices on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

In a lengthy statement, Eugene Wamalwa claimed that the operation is part of a well-choreographed scheme aimed at silencing dissent.

According to the former Defence Cabinet Secretary, the plot started with the arrest of youthful protesters, with terrorism charges being levelled against some of them.

The plot was followed by the recent arrest of Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara, who was later released on a Ksh50,000 personal bond.

“It started with the GenZs, then the Mcas, MPs like Hon Jane Kihara and now higher targets like @bonifacemwangi and United Opposition Principals, civil society and other progressive forces, with the sole purpose of intimidating the Opposition and suppressing dissent,” Wamalwa’s statement read in part.

Will not be cowed

Nonetheless, Eugene Wamalwa insisted that the intimidation tactics would not deter them from pushing their agenda of making President William Ruto serve for only one term.

“No matter how many Kenyans face abductions, arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, false imprisonment, detention without trial and state-sponsored goonism and terrorism,We are in the fog of the season’s end, and the People’s resolve to end this reign of terror and make the Ruto Presidency #Wantam is unstoppable,” the opposition figure reiterated.

Mwangi’s saga

Njeri Mwangi, the wife of human rights activist Boniface Mwangi, claims her husband was taken from their Lukenya home by police over links to terrorism.

In a video posted on X on Saturday, July 19, 2025, Njeri said unidentified individuals, believed to be police officers, stormed their home, known as Courage Base, and took Mwangi away, citing terrorism and arson as the reasons for his arrest.

“The police have come to our home in Courage Base and are taking my husband, talking of terrorism and arson! They’ve taken his gadgets and said they are taking him to DCI HQ. I can’t breathe,” she wrote.

The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) was among the first bodies to slam the government over the harassment of political activists.

In a statement on its X page, the rights body demanded the immediate release of the activist.
