Vihiga side hopes to recoup title from reigning champs Thika

League leaders Vihiga Queens will face off with defending champions Thika Queens today in the FKF Women Premier League’s clash of giants. This is one of the four thrilling midweek fixtures, scheduled to wrap up the season’s first leg roster.

Vihiga Queens are doing everything possible to reclaim the title they lost last season to Thika Queens, while Thika are battling hard to defend their title.

“It’s one of the games that we need to collect the three points, because if we win it, it will widen our lead in the race for the title,” Vihiga Queen’s coach Boniface Nyamunyamu told People Sport.

Vihiga are enjoying a purple patch campaign so far, sitting at the top of the league table standings with 28 points from 10 matches and are coming to this match buoyed by Saturday’s 5-2 thumping of Kangemi Ladies FC.

Thika are third with 20 points, having suffered two defeats, drawn twice, and won six matches, and are heading to this match at the back of a 1-1 draw with fifth-placed Trans Nzoia Falcons.

Meanwhile, Falcons welcome  Kisumu All-Starlets, seeking to end their run of two home draws at the ASK Grounds Kitale.

Falcons drew 1-1 with Thika Queens on Saturday after drawing 0-0 with Gaspo the previous weekend. But they are unbeaten at home this season, having won twice and drawn thrice.

At the ASK Ground Nakuru, unpredictable Nakuru City Queens hosts impressive Gaspo Women FC. Nakuru was not in action at the weekend, while Gaspo won 3-2 on the road in Luanda over hosts Bunyore Starlets.

“We’re playing away and it’s going to be a tough match, but we’re up to the task and we’re hoping for a win,” Gaspo Women coach Domitila Wangui Armani said.

In the final fixture of the day, fourth-placed Ulinzi Starlets welcome struggling Kayole Starlets at Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi. Ulinzi traveled to Kisumu on Saturday and won 2-1, and are looking to extend their winning streak to nine matches.
