Speaking on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, during the International Day for People Living with disability event held in Vihiga County, Governor Dr Wilber Ottichilo

He challenged them to wake up from their slumber and go for jobs and tenders being advertised by his administration.
Governor Ottichilo regretted that when jobs or tenders are advertised, no people with disabilities apply.
“I am appealing to the people living with disability here in Vihiga to apply for both jobs and tenders being advertised by my administration. We have many opportunities for the people living with disability,” urged Governor Ottichilo.
Governor Ottichilo has also ordered the county department of gender, culture, youth, and sports to register all people living with disability in Vihiga County.
He said he wants the data of people with disabilities to be well tabulated so that they can get assistance.
He said the data will help his administration to know the exact number of people living with disability so that they can be easily attended to.
“I want all people living with disabilities in Vihiga to be registered. The data should be fed into our county geospatial unit so that we can access it for our services,” said Ottichilo.
Ottichilo also challenged people living with disabilities holding key positions in the county government of Vihiga to help their fellows.

He said some of the people living with disabilities got their jobs to represent their counterparts and not for their selfish or personal gains.
“We have people who secured jobs in my administration to represent the interests of their counterparts who are also disabled. Some have forgotten their mandate. They cannot even fight for the interests of their people. Even passing crucial information to their fellows is a problem,” decried Ottichilo.
Ottichilo asked people with disabilities in Vihiga County to apply for soft loans and grants offered by the national and county governments to venture into business.
Governor Ottichilo promised to help people living with disability access capital for business.
