As Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in Vihiga county cry for better payment, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has called on the County Government of Vihiga to urgently prioritise the improvement of salaries.

The Senator wants the county’s administration to address the welfare of ECDE teachers across the county.

Speaking during the closing ceremonies of financial management seminars for primary school headteachers held at Goibei Girls Secondary School and Bunyore Girls yesterday, Senator Osotsi emphasized that a strong educational foundation begins at the early childhood level.

“We must ensure no child is left behind,” said the Senator, adding that this starts with ensuring “our ECDE centres are well-equipped and our ECDE teachers are paid their gratuities and other pending dues on time”.

“These educators play a crucial role in shaping the early learning experiences of our children, and their welfare must be safeguarded,” he said.

The event brought together school heads from Sabatia, Hamisi, Vihiga, Luanda and Emuhaya sub-counties.

Senator Osotsi used the platform to reaffirm his unwavering commitment to supporting the education sector and addressing the challenges school leaders face.

Among the major concerns raised was the delayed disbursement of capitation funds, which has disrupted the smooth running of schools.

Senator Osotsi assured the headteachers that the matter is receiving attention at the Senate level.

“Our teachers are the backbone of our society and the opinion shapers of our communities,” he noted. “Their concerns, especially regarding delayed capitation, are valid and must be addressed with urgency.”
