‘It’s needless to say I want to kill you’ – Uhuru fires back at DP Ruto
President Uhuru Kenyatta has fired back at Deputy President William Ruto over claims that the Head of State had issued threats to him.
Speaking during the launch of the Nairobi Expressway on Sunday, July 31, the president clarified that he was not after the DP’s life with just one week to the General Elections.
No bad intentions
Uhuru noted that he was looking forward to his retirement and he doesn’t intend to do any ill in his final days at the Head of State.
“Everyone, including myself, has the right to campaign for whoever they want. There is no reason for insults and If I answer you because you have lied. There is no reason to tell people I want to kill you,” he said.
Uhuru added that he has persevered insults and humiliation from DP Ruto and his allies and it was useless for him to take action with limited time in office.
“You have insulted me for close three years, has anyone touched you? I was in office for those three years and did I not have the capability? Now that I want to hand over the government and I have limited powers, do you think I have time to look for you?” He stated.
DP Ruto accuse Uhuru of threatening him
On Friday, DP Ruto slammed Uhuru over what he termed as threats directed to him, further saying that the latter is ungrateful and boastful despite being helped.
Ruto responded to the alleged attack by Uhuru, noting that he was ready to face him provided he doesn’t harm his children.
“Please Mr President, kuwa muungwana, kuwa na shukrani; sisi ndio tulikusaidia. Wacha kujifanya sahii. Unaanza kunithreaten mimi? Ati utanifanya nini? Bora usiuwe watoto wangu, lakini mimi na wewe tafadhali tuheshimiane,” the DP said.
NCIC on UhuRuto verbal exchange
At the same time, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has asked Uhuru and Ruto to stop creating tension ahead of the August election.
The commission, through its chairperson Samuel Kobia, reminded the two leaders that the citizens are looking up to them to lead them through a peaceful election even as the country is forging towards the polls slated for August 9.
Professor Kobia further urged leaders to take charge of their mandate as leaders and guide citizens accordingly.
“His excellency the President and Deputy President, all Kenyans are looking up to you to provide a situation in which tensions will not be high and where Kenyans can really see that our leaders are helping us to move towards a situation where we have a peaceful election
“As NCIC, we want to say that the leadership in the country has a huge responsibility, the more responsibility you are given by Kenyans by being elected to positions of leadership, the more they expect from you,” Kobia stated.
