Uhuru, Raila among Kenyan leaders mourning death of Namibia’s president

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga have mourned the death of Namibia’s President Hage Geingob.

In a statement, Uhuru described Geingob as a great leader who contributed immensely to the liberation of the country.

In his message of condolence, former President Kenyatta said he was deeply saddened by the death of President Geingob.

“No words can sufficiently convey the magnitude of the loss as President Geingob was a distinguished servant of the people, an outstanding statesman and a great leader full of wisdom,” Uhuru said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Government and the people of Namibia during this difficult time of grieving and loss.”

The former President said he was privileged to have interacted with President Geingob and treasures the wisdom and knowledge of a statesman shared with humility and grace.

“We will always remember and cherish his huge contribution to the welfare of the people of Namibia and Africa as a whole,” Uhuru added.

Raila mourns Namibia’s president

In his message, Raila termed Geingob as a beacon of the liberation struggle and architect of the country’s constitution.

“My condolences go out to President Hage Geingob’s family and the people of Namibia. Africa has lost a true pan-Africanist. His legacy as a beacon of the liberation struggle and architect of Namibia’s constitution will forever echo in the hearts of his people and across Africa,” Raila stated.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula said, “I extend my deepest condolences on the passing of Namibia’s President, H.E Hage Geingob. May his legacy of leadership and dedication bring comfort during this difficult time. My thoughts are with the people of Namibia and Africa as a whole, as they mourn the loss of a great leader.”

President Geingob, 82, died on Sunday at a hospital in Windhoek.
