Uhuru mourns Jomo Kenyatta’s aide-de-camp Ngure Matu

Lt. Col. (Rtd) Samuel Ngure Matu, a military officer who served as President Jomo Kenyatta’s Aide De Camp (ADC), is dead.

In a statement to newsrooms, State House Kenya confirmed that Matu, 82, passed on early Sunday morning at his home in Nakuru County.

The cause of his death was not immediately revealed.

Tribute to Samuel Ngure Matu

President Uhuru Kenyatta has since sent his message of condolence to the family, relatives and friends of Matu.

In his message of comfort and encouragement, Uhuru eulogized the late Matu as a patriotic Kenyan who served the country diligently in various capacities.

“We will forever cherish Lt. Col. (Rtd) Samuel Ngure Matu for his commitment to the service of our beloved country. His diligence and skills earned him a position as Chief Security Officer at Toyota Kenya Ltd after retiring from the military,” the President said.

The Head of State described Matu as a great role model who leaves behind a rich legacy that should be emulated.

“We thank God for having given him to us as a gift. We appreciate his service to the community, especially the role he played in church and in the Military Officers Association,” he added.

Uhuru prayed to God to give the bereaved family strength and grace to bear the loss.

Jomo Kenyatta ruled as president from 1964 until his death in 1978. Matu was one of the military officers who had the opportunity of serving the president during the period.
