UDA’s Ole Ntutu wins Narok governor seat race

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Patrick Ole Ntutu has been declared the winner in the Narok governor seat race.

Ntutu garnered 158,100 votes against Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Moitalel  Kenta who got 148,270 votes.

“After years and days of waiting, happy and difficult hours, exceptional crises too. The wait is finally over. I want to thank the people of Narok who have given me the confidence to lead and preside over Narok County for the next five years. Asanteni sana,” Ntutu tweeted shortly after receiving his certificate.

The results were delayed after chaos erupted at Kilgoris constituency tallying centre on August 12 and 13.

The chaos extended to the Narok county tallying centre at Maasai Mara University, forcing the County Returning Officer Sidney Namulungu to move to Bomas of Kenya where he announced the results on Sunday, August 14.

Ntutu, Kenta claim victory

Ntutu and Kenta had both claimed victory.

There was tension on Sunday in Narok with supporters of the two blocking Narok-Mai Mahiu highway, demanding the release of the election results.

Ntutu served as Transport Chief Administrative Secretary before resigning in February this year to vie for the seat.

He is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto.

He will take over from Samuel Tunai who lost Senate race in the Tuesday’s polls after serving his two terms as Narok governor.
