UDA pays glowing tribute to departed Turkana County Deputy Speaker

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party paid a solemn tribute to the late Deputy Speaker of the Turkana County Assembly and Nanam Ward MCA, Phillip Ekuam.

In a statement shared through its X platform on Sunday, June 29, 2025, the ruling party lauded the long-serving member, who began his political journey as a councillor in 2007, as a dedicated leader.

Ekuam was laid to rest on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in Lokichogio, Turkana County.

Humble and dedicated

“Hon. Ekuam served his people with unwavering commitment, from his early days as a councillor in 2007 to his time as MCA until his passing. He was a pillar of leadership in Turkana, humble, grounded, and always present for his community,” the party statement read in part.

The solemn function brought together a number of political players from across the political divide. Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi led the party’s delegation.

He was accompanied by the Deputy Executive Director of the party, Higgins Mbugua, and MP Kiborek Reuben.

Other leaders in the event included Turkana leaders, led by Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai and County Assembly Speaker Charles Lokiyoto. Senator James Lomenen, Cecilia Ngitit (Women Representative), Ebuyo Nanok (MP, Turkana West), Ariko Namoit (MP, Turkana South), Emathe Namuar (MP, Turkana Central), John Munyes (Former CS and Senator), and Lodepe Nakar.

In his tribute, the UDA treasurer, who represented his party leader, President William Ruto, at the function, hailed the politician as a steadfast member of the party.

Nyakundi further conveyed his condolences to his family.

“Today, I had the privilege of representing H.E. President Dr William Samoei Ruto and the UDA Party in Nanam Ward, Turkana County, during the final farewell of Hon. Philip Ekuam, who was the Deputy Speaker of the Turkana County Assembly and MCA for Nanam Ward in Lokichogio,” he said.

Public servant

“Hon. Ekuam was a steadfast member of the UDA party and a devoted public servant. From his early days as a councillor in 2007 to his most recent leadership role, he remained humble, accessible, and fully committed to the people he served,” his statement on Facebook read.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Hon. Ekuam’s family, the people of Nanam, and the entire Turkana community. His legacy of service and humility will continue to inspire. Rest well, Hon. Philip Ekuam. Your legacy lives on.”
