UDA announces when party nominations will be held ahead of by-elections
By Kenneth Mwenda, September 4, 2025The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced that its party nominations will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
In a notice issued on Thursday, September 4, 2025, on their X account, the UDA National Elections Board confirmed that registration for aspirants closes on Friday, September 5, at 5:00 pm. The process opened on August 14. Interested candidates are required to apply through the party’s online portal.
“NOTICE is hereby given that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nominations shall be held on 20th September 2025,” the notice read.
According to the party, the nomination fees are non-refundable. Male aspirants for Member of County Assembly (MCA) seats will pay Ksh50,000, while women, youth and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will pay Ksh25,000. For Member of Parliament (MP) and Senate seats, men will pay Ksh250,000. Women, youth and PWDs will pay Ksh125,000.

IEBC sets by-election date
By-elections will be held in six National Assembly constituencies: Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja. Voters in Baringo County will also elect a new senator. At the county level, by-elections are set for wards in Samburu, Nandi, Tana River, Garissa, Nairobi, Kakamega, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet, Machakos, Narok, Kajiado, Uasin Gishu, Nyamira, and Turkana.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared the vacancies through a Gazette Notice on August 8. It has set November 27, 2025, as the date for the by-elections. Campaigns will officially run between October 8 and November 24.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto announced that UDA will back a joint candidate with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Ugunja. Speaking in Siaya on Sunday, August 31, after a church service, the president said the decision was made to avoid divisions.
He explained that ODM and UDA had agreed to field one candidate as part of the broad-based government. His remarks followed the appointment of former Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi to the Cabinet, which left the parliamentary seat vacant.
