Uasin Gishu begins journey towards Eldoret City status
By Wycliffe Kipsang, October 26, 2022Uasin-Gishu County Government has kicked off stakeholder engagement forums across the region in its quest to ensure that Eldoret town attains a city status.
A strategic gateway to East Africa and a fast-growing economic hub is among the unique qualities that Eldoret is banking on as it positions itself as Kenya’s fifth city.
According to Governor Jonathan Bii, the town is the gateway to Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, and South Sudan noting that its business vibrancy is among qualities that give the agriculture-rich town all the qualities of a city.
Speaking yesterday during the launch of the citizen’s participation on the conferment of the City Status, Governor Bii urged all stakeholders to join forces towards creating an environment that will spur the town into a city status.
“My administration will continue creating a conducive environment for investors in the region to boost economic growth in Eldoret town and other satellite towns in the region,” said Governor Bii at Eldoret Town Hall.
He noted that Eldoret is not only a fast-growing economic hub for up to eight counties in the North Rift, but also a gateway to East Africa. The county boss said his administration is keen on environmental transformation to make Eldoret the cleanest city, making structural accessibility with persons with disability and paving the streets and modifying the buildings to transform the town are some of the strategies.
