Two corona positive remandees held at police cells in Thika

Two remandees at Thika and Makongeni police stations in Kiambu County who were among the seven Covid-19 patients that were announced by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday. The remandees were still held in the cells three days since the announcement was made.
By the time of going to press, credible reports indicated that the two were still mingling with the others held at the two stations on Friday
They are also reported to have interacted with various police officers putting their lives at the risk of contracting the deadly virus.
Thika Sub County police Commander Beatrice Kiraguri told People Daily that Thika police station has 40 remandees while the Makongeni one has 36 others who could be infected if they have interacted with the two confirmed.
According to the police boss, the two patient’s samples were collected last week and confirmed to be positive on Wednesday this week but no action has been taken by officers from the Ministry of Health.
“It’s true we have two Covid-19 patients within our Makongeni and town cells,” said Kiraguri.
Since the outbreak of Covid-19 that hurt judiciary activities, remandees are held in cells across the country as their cases are taking longer time to prosecute.
