Trans Nzoia: Workers fault county governments shut down
The Trans Nzoia union of county government workers union has opposed calls by the Council of governors (COG) to shut down devolved units due to the biting cash crisis and told the governors to embrace President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga’s push for a sh. 50 billion that will go a long way in breaking the stalemate.
Union chairman Juma Kiboi read malice in the Council of governors ( COG) chairman Wycliffe Oparanya’s statement which he termed unfortunate and unconstitutional .
He warned that locking down of counties would hamper service delivery and deny many Kenyans right to access services which have not been adequately provided due to rampant pilferage.
“In the first instance services haven’t been effectively offered to the residents in many counties. It beats the logic for one to wake up making unilateral threats of shutting down counties even after failing to make use of available cash,” he said in a statement.
