Festive season warning
The accident comes shortly after Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja issued instructions to police officers ahead of the festive season.
Speaking on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Holy Family Minor Basilica in Nairobi, IG Kanja asked officers to remain vigilant as the busy travel period approaches.
“May I state that the festive season is fast approaching. This is usually the most challenging period, requiring a more vibrant approach in matters of security and matters and traffic flows,” Kanja said.
He reminded the police of their duty to ensure that all motorists observe traffic rules to reduce the risk of road accidents. The festive season is usually marked by increased movement, with many people travelling to their rural homes to celebrate with family and friends.
According to IG Kanja, this often leads to hurried driving, traffic congestion, and a rise in road accidents.
Police are still monitoring the situation at the Engen-Makongeni crash site, as more updates are expected.
