Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

Senate sessions

The Senate of Kenya will reconvene on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 9:30 am. This follows a brief adjournment after yesterday’s discussions.

The focus of the Senate was on the Finance and Budget Committee’s report regarding the nominations of Lynette Muganda and Mohamed Abdi to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

Team Kenya in Olympics

After missing out on the Gold and silver in the Women’s steeplechase, team Kenya continues to compete in the Olympic Games, with events scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.

The day’s competitions will begin with the 5000-meter race, followed by the Men’s 800m race, set to start 45 minutes later.

The Women’s 1500m repechage will take place in the afternoon, leading into the 400m Hurdles semi-final at 7:45 p.m. The day will conclude with the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase Final.

Yagneshi Devani case

According to EACC, Yagnesh Devani, the chief suspect in the Ksh7.6 billion Triton Oil scandal, is expected to be arraigned in court.

Devani was apprehended by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday morning and spent the night at Kilimani Police Station.

After being processed at the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station, he was presented to the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, where Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki ordered his placement in police custody.

His arrest follows a warrant issued by the court 16 years ago after he fled the country amid investigations into the oil scam.
