Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

1. Affordable Housing Bill public participation

Parliament is set to conduct week-long public participation on the Affordable Housing Bill, 2023 starting today across 19 counties. These include; Narok, Embu, Kisii, Kirinyaga, Homabay, Kiambu, Vihiga, Machakos, Uasin Gishu, Turkana, Baringo, Nairobi, Wajir, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi and Mombasa counties.

In a notice, the National Assembly committed the process to two House committees; Finance and National Planning and that of Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works.

“The Bill seeks to provide a legal framework for the establishment of Affordable Housing Fund and give effect to the right to accessible and adequate housing as provided for in the Constitution,” part of the notice reads.

The Bill sponsored by Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah also imposes the Affordable Housing Levy to finance the project.

2. AFCON showdowns

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON) heavily fancied Morocco is set to face Tanzania in Group F at Stade de San Pedro.

On the other side, two-time champions DR Congo clash with neighbours and 2012 winners Zambia at the same venue.

AFCON Kicked off on Saturday, January 13, 2024, in Ivory Coast.
