Reactions after Ruto declares days of mourning
Reactions are expected to emerge after a decision by President William Ruto to declare three days of mourning following the tragic loss of 17 students to a fire at the Hillside Endarasha primary school on Thursday night.
Ruto said that the government would support the survivors in public hospitals even as investigations to determine the cause of the fire are ongoing.
“I, William Samoei Ruto, under the authority vested in me as President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, do hereby order and direct that, as a solemn testament to the indelible mark left upon the nation’s consciousness by the spirits of the seventeen departed children, Kenya shall observe a three-day period of national mourning,” Ruto said.
Condolences to pour in after Lamu deputy governor dies
Following the death of Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Ndung’u, condolence messages are expected to pour in from colleagues and senior government officials.
Ruto on Friday, September 6, 2024, confirmed his demise, stating that he was a progressive leader.
“He was a progressive leader who worked tirelessly for the greater good of the people of Lamu. Our love and prayers to the family, friends and the people of Lamu County at this sad moment,” Ruto said.
Blackout to hit two counties
A scheduled power outage is set to hit two counties today, Saturday, September 7, 2024.
In Uasin Gishu, the blackout scheduled for 10 am to 5 pm will affect Semtech Factory, Safaricom Booster, Jua Kali, Wood Treatment, Ngamia Petrol, Kakasia Chemist, Police Post and adjacent customers.
In Trans Nzoia, the blackout will affect Endebes and Panocal areas including Kapkoi, Nauyapong, Lessos, Suam, Maridadi, Kapsitwet, Kwanza, Kobos, Molem, Kimwondo, Gumo Farm, Katuke, Chepchoina, Elgon Orchards, Nai, Kaptega Chorlim, Mt Elgon KWS & KFS, Kitum, Panocal, Kinyoro Endebes, Elgon Tea and adjacent customers from 9 am to 5 pm.
