Reactions to Raila China tour

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga is in Beijing, China, after he accompanied President William Ruto, with reactions to his trip expected to feature among the top news events of the day.

Raila is set to attend the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit, where he is expected to pitch for his candidacy for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson.

The former Prime Minister was seen in the photos shared by President Ruto on Monday, September 2, 2024, via his official X account, upon his arrival in China.

The forum on China-Africa Cooperation will be held from Wednesday, September 4, 2024, to Friday, September 6, 2024.

The forum, which will be attended by several African Presidents, will provide an opportunity for Raila to argue his case before the heads of state.

Back to school

Students are expected to go back to school after the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) suspended its nationwide strike following a day-long meeting with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) last evening.

A section of school heads had sent home students on the morning of Monday, September 2, 2024, over the teachers’ strike, only for it to be suspended in the evening.

Speaking at the TSC headquarters on Monday, September 2, 2024, KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori said that teachers all over the country should resume their duties even as they iron out the remaining issues with the commission.

“From the Union’s side, we suspend the strike and ask our teachers to go back to class pending the speedy resolution of these matters as already agreed upon between us and the commission,” Misori said.
