Ruto in South Korea

President William Ruto remains in South Korea for bilateral discussions with President Yoon Suk Yeol, focusing on mutual interests such as trade enhancement, industrial growth, infrastructure development, and job creation.

On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, President Ruto met with Yoon Hee-sung, Chairman and President of Korea Exim Bank. This financial institution is backing numerous projects in Kenya, which President Ruto highlighted as evidence of the strong and cooperative relationship between the two nations.

During this visit, the bank signed a $238 million (Ksh31 billion) financing agreement to support the development of the Konza Digital Media City at Konza Technopolis. This technopolis aims to become a premier digital media and entertainment hub, facilitating research and training in Kenya's Silicon Savannah.

Additional projects following the agreement include the expansion of the 78-kilometer Machakos Junction-Emali Road into a dual carriageway, the enhancement of water supply infrastructure to Konza, and the establishment of a vaccine production facility.

On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Kenya officially became a member of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI). This move marks a significant step towards achieving self-sufficiency in vaccine production for the country. President Ruto emphasized Kenya's commitment to this goal during the ceremony commemorating the ratification of the IVI treaty at the agency's headquarters in Seoul, South Korea.
