Three university students will today be arraigned in connection to the murder of 23-year-old Kabarak University nursing student, Derrick Malumasa Sabuni.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are expected to make a Miscellaneous application in court to detain the three as they conclude investigations.
The three suspects were arrested on Friday evening following a probe by detectives at the scene where the body was found hours earlier. The motive is yet to be known.
The investigations have also established Sabuni may have not been killed at the site where his body was found on Friday morning as there were no blood stains nor any signs of struggle at the scene.
The deceased had a serious stab wound on his stomach inflicted by a sharp object.
The third-year student was found with stab wounds in the stomach along the Nakuru-Mogotio road near Kampi Ya Moto trading centre, police said.
Seven days
The suspects were detained at Menengai Police Station, while the body was kept at Nakuru Municipal Annex Mortuary awaiting post-mortem and further investigations.
Elsewhere, the suspect in the murder of socialite Starlet Wahu Mwangi will remain in police custody for the next seven days as detectives conclude investigations before he is formally charged with murder.
The suspect John Matara appeared before Makadara Law Court Senior Resident Magistrate Mercy Kivuti on Friday January 26.
The magistrate granted the prosecution’s application that sought to have him in custody for seven more days to among others undergo mental assessment, a requirement for murder suspect.
He is set to take plea on February 2.
Matara was arrested at the Mbagathi Hospital moments after allegedly stabbing to death Wahu in an apartment in South B area of Nairobi.
