Three lawyers announce plans to unseat Havi at LSK
Three lawyers have declared interest in taking over as the Law Society of Kenya boss from Nelson Havi who is now eyeing the Westlands parliamentary seat.
Lawyers Eric Theuri, Omwanza Ombati and Benard Ng’etich have declared their interest in taking over from Havi.
Theuri and Ombati are based in Nairobi while Ng’etich who is the most recent person to announce that he was eyeing the LSK President seat, is based in Nakuru
The elections are scheduled for March 17 and LSK has a membership of over 18,000 lawyers.
Speaking to People Daily Digital, Ombati said that lawyers should entrust him with the position as he was the most suitable candidate to front their interests.
“I indeed propose to serve as the LSK President 2022- 2024. I shall pitch and convince lawyers that they should choose our candidature as the most considerate and competent,” he said.
Asked why he believed he was best suited to run affairs at LSK, Omwanza said he was the one who pushed for lawyers to be considered as essential service providers.
In addition, he said that he played a big role in the 2017 general elections case that was filed in court by ODM leader Raila Odinga that led to a run-off.
On his part, Theuri, who is serving as the LSK chairperson - Nairobi chapter, says he would ensure that lawyers in the country are considered whenever the government is signing deals with other countries.
“Lawyers should get a place whenever the government is signing deals with other countries be it on matters trade or law,” Theuri said.
Havi has been at the helm of LSK for 18 months now.
