Police and the National Environment and Management Authority (NEMA) officials have arrested three hawkers for using banned plastic bags.

The authorities arrested them in Nairobi on Monday while hawking fruits and sugarcane in banned polythene.

“Nema arrested three traders in Nairobi yesterday using banned plastic bags(sic),” read a statement from NEMA.

During the arrest, the officials also confiscated roughly 500 pieces of banned polythene.

Nema enacted the ban on polythene bags in 2017.
