They are planning to steal my votes – Ruto

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential candidate William Ruto now says his opponents are now planning to rig the August 9 presidential election in their favour.

Speaking during a political rally in Kakamega’s Bukhungu Stadium, Ruto said the plans will, however, not succeed.

“They have tried all manner of things to intimidate us in the past four years, but they have not succeeded. They are now planning to steal my votes. Do I look like someone whose votes can be stolen? Let them try and see,” Ruto told the rally.

Ruto, who is also the leader of the Kenya Kwanza alliance, asked the Western Kenya residents to come out in large numbers and vote for him the August 9.

Ruto popularity in Western Kenya

Ruto was holding the first rally in the region after he was cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to run for the presidency.

His lieutenants, led by ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula, have been crisscrossing the region to drum up support for Ruto.

The Western Kenya region has been perceived as Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s stronghold.

The latest polls have consistently put Ruto’s popularity in the region at less than 40 per cent even after Musalia and Wetangula joined his camp.
