‘We won’t be intimidated’- LSK’s Theuri reacts after Ruto’s message to housing project challengers

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Eric Theuri has hit out at President William Ruto’s promise to use the ceremonial sword to deal with people who are trying to sabotage his projects.

In a statement on his X media, Theuri said the sword is meant to protect and uphold the Constitution, not to be wielded as an instrument of oppression.

The LSK boss noted that the legal fraternity will fearlessly challenge any government decision that violates the Constitution.

He said that they will not cower in the face of threats and intimidation noting that they are mandated to protect the Constitution and the rule of law.

“Alongside the sword, the President was given the Constitution. The sword is intended to protect and uphold the Constitution and is not an instrument of oppression. As advocates, we took an oath to protect the Constitution and the rule of law. We will do so candidly, and boldly, and won’t be threatened or intimidated from challenging any government decision that offends the Constitution. The Constitution of Kenya is our sword, and we will swing it against impunity,” he declared.

Ruto warns saboteurs of pet projects

Earlier, Ruto pledged to deal with those opposing his housing and health initiatives.

While addressing individuals who have resorted to legal action to sabotage his pet projects, the Head of State described them as enemies of progress.

He asserted his determination to wield his authority to counter their efforts.

“These people are saying that those who do not have medical insurance should not be given one. They are saying that the amount being contributed should not be reduced from Sh500 to Sh300,” Ruto stated

“The same people have also moved to court to stop the housing programme. We are planning on how our youth can get jobs. If someone goes to court to block the construction of houses that create jobs, that is an enemy of Kenya,” he added.

While acknowledging the power vested in him, he vowed to ‘slash’ the ‘enemies of progress.’

“You granted me these powers. All those attempting to hinder our progress will face my resolve. I am prepared to tackle them, and your prayers are paramount,” he warned

“Because you know I was given a big sword (during his inauguration), do you think that Sword is for chopping vegetables? Is it not for slashing these conmen? I will slash them for real,” Ruto affirmed.
