Teso leaders advise Ruto to listen to young people
Teso leaders yesterday appealed to President William Ruto to listen to the voices of Kenyan youths to save the country from imminent anarchy.
Led by Nairobi Assembly Majority Leader Peter Imwatok and Busia County Assembly Deputy Speaker Ronald Ochalu, the leaders also took a swipe at Teso South MP Mary Emaase, saying he he had disrespected the Teso community by voting for the controversial 2024 Finance Bill, which President William Ruto withdrew yesterday.
Speaking outside a courthouse in Amagoro, the leaders said the protests arose from suppressed anger of the people and loss of trust in their parliamentary representatives.
The leaders converged at the court for the hearing of a case in which former Amukura Central MCA Moses Ouma and three others are charged with malicious damage to property and assault.
The leaders urged the government to stop intimidating innocent Kenyans through killings and arbitrary arrests.
They said the safety of the nation was paramount, telling the police not to use excessive force in dealing with Gen Z protesters and reminding them that they have a constitutional right to picket.
