Tension engulfs populous Kitengela over missing trio
There was heavy security deployment in the populous Kitengela town in Kajiado county for the last two days following fears a group of youth planned to hold demonstrations to demand the release of three people allegedly abducted by police.
This followed reports that the youths planned to cause chaos in the town to demand the release of the three people.
In a letter, the youths had alerted the Kitengela Officer Commanding Station (OCS) David Ole Shani requesting for security to picket on Monday and Tuesday over the alleged abductions.
The missing trio include two brothers Longton Jamil (42) and Aslam Longton (36) who are reported to have been abducted on Monday, August 19 in broad daylight a few meters from their home.
According to an eyewitness, a white Subaru with four occupants who are said to have identified themselves as police officers blocked the car being driven by the two brothers, bundled them in the car boot before speeding off.
The family now says Jamil, who is a human rights defender, was not involved in organizing nor participated in anti-government protests.
Futile search
According to his brother Razak Longton, the family’s efforts to search for his brothers in various police stations have been futile leaving them in distress.
“We are worried as a family because since Monday we have been moving from one police station to another to enquire on the whereabouts of our kin but we are yet to trace them,” Razak said.
According Jamal’s wife, Salwa Mohammed, the two were heading to Isinya when they were abducted.
“My husband was in a jovial mood and had not expressed any fear whatsoever. As a family we are worried and confused. We call on the government to help us know where my husband is,” appealed Salwa.
The third missing person, Bob Njagi, 47, who is also the chairperson of Free Kenya Movement is reported to have been abducted by unknown people at Mlolongo while on a bus heading to Kitengela from Nairobi on the same day.
His father, Frank Njagi says the family has unsuccessfully tried to trace him in all police stations in Nairobi, Machakos and Kajiado counties.
“The bus was stopped at Mlolongo and armed masked men stormed in, claiming that they were trailing a wanted suspect who was among the passengers. They forcefully picked the activist whom we know, bundled him in a unmarked vehicle and drove off. We could not help since the masked men ordered everyone to shut up or get shot, “narrated an eyewitness who sought anonymity.
