Team to promote medical tourism

A task force working to make Kenya a preferred destination for medical tourism in Africa wants more public and private hospitals to aggressively market the country’s growing healthcare status.
This is after a recent Ministry of Health report showed that more Kenyans still prefer seeking treatment for critical diseases abroad.
Headed by Health Director General, Dr Patrick Amoth, the task force wants other hospitals to emulate Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), Kenyatta University Teaching Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH), Nairobi Hospital, Karen and Mediheal hospitals.
“These health facilities are already marketing medical tourism across the continent,” the team led by Amoth, noted.
A source at the Kenya Healthcare Federation indicates that more than 5000 patients have checked into health facilities in Nairobi in the last year.
Kenya’s status as a preferred healthcare destination has recently gained marks ranking fifth after South Africa, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia, which November 2021, Research and Market’s Medical Tourism 2022 Report: Africa potential, noted have the most advanced medical facilities on the continent.
