Police in Nandi are investigating an incident where a junior secondary school teacher allegedly defiled a minor in Tinderet sub-county.

The teacher yesterday escaped death by a whisker after irate members of the public threatened to lynch the suspect prompting police to lob teargas canisters.

Some of the parents had already bought petrol to burn the teacher vowing to teach him a lesson for the heinous act which has shocked the region.

It took the intervention of security personnel who rescued the 38-year-old teacher and escorted him to Tinderet police station where he is being held.

Tinderet Sub-County Police Commander Abdulahi Jire who confirmed the incident said the suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations into the incident are completed.
