At least 75 Tanzanian students on Friday took part in fun sports games organized by Confucius Institute at the University of Dar es Salaam to improve their understanding of Chinese language and culture.
   The games have several parts, including using chopsticks to pick up peas and running a three-legged race chanting in Chinese.
   Speaking shortly after attending the games, the students said the games were a motivation for them to understand the Chinese language and culture.
   Loveness Mramba, a 20-year-old student pursuing a diploma in Chinese at the Confucius Institute, said the games were inspirational to her in understanding the Chinese language and culture.
   “I am learning Chinese because it is a language of opportunities in business. I also want to become an interpreter and knowing the Chinese language will improve my curriculum vitae,” said Mramba.
   Her remarks were echoed by 26-year-old Robert Kaaya. “I have learnt how to eat food using chopsticks like what our Chinese friends do,” said Kaaya, adding that he was learning Chinese language because he intended to do business between Tanzania and China in future.
   Sharif Matumbi, a Tanzanian teaching Chinese at the Confucius Institute, said the games brought together some 75 Tanzanian students undertaking various Chinese courses at the institute.
   “Through the games, the students are learning Chinese language and culture by methods like using chopsticks,” said Matumbi, adding that the games also enhanced their learning ability and practices. (Xinhua)
