Tana River county healthcare system has received a boost following the unveiling of multimillion-shilling modern medical infrastructure by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta yesterday.

The facilities, which include a 60-bed maternity wing with a neonatal unit, CT-Scan and Sh40 million worth of medical supplies and equipment, will go a long way in ensuring residents get access to quality health services.

Addressing residents at Hola County Referral Hospital grounds, the First Lady said efficient healthcare systems are necessary, especially now that the country is moving towards the attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

She called on stakeholders in the Health sector, including government agencies and private sector entities, to work together to ensure Kenyans— especially vulnerable women and children— have access to quality and affordable health services.

Protect lives

“It is, therefore, my hope that we can build many more partnerships that help us sustain these systems and I will uphold my pledge to work with you to protect the lives of women and children of this county,” said the First Lady.

Margaret applauded Tana River county government for the ongoing expansion and improvement of health infrastructure, saying construction and equipping of 50 dispensaries over the last seven years is a commendable achievement.

Area Governor Maj (rtd) Dhado Godhana commended the First Lady for championing access to quality health for all Kenyans, especially women and children

He said her efforts have greatly helped in reducing maternal and child mortality in the country.
