Over 60 families who are victims of the Monday floods in Ol-jorai in Gilgil Sub-County, Nakuru have been evacuated.

Seven people, including four children, were killed and six injured during the floods.

Gilgil Deputy County Commissioner Rebecca Muturi and her security team on Wednesday toured the affected area to assess the magnitude of the damage caused the night floods.

Area MP Martha Wangare accompanied the team.

Muturi said nine houses were washed away by the floods and survivors were being hosted by neighbours and friends.

“We are working with the county government to open up the drainages, de-silt water sources, improve sanitation and meet the health needs of residents in order to avert an outbreak of waterborne diseases,” she said.
