Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has asked President William Ruto to support independent institutions to help them fully discharge their mandated roles.

Addressing a crowd in Narok over the weekend, the senator stated that will adequate support and resources, independent institutions can effectively discharge their mandate and go after corrupt individuals in the national government which he says is the cause of the country’s stagnating economy and financial problems.

The senator reiterated that the Head of State should prioritise independent institutions such as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to help avert cases of corruption currently ailing the country.

He particularly pointed out that it was concerning that a section of governors once living in abject poverty became instant billionaires after being elected.

Vita yote inaangalia national government. I want to plead with you and support these independent institutions, EACC, NIS , wafuate hawa magavana ambao wamekua waki aligning their own pockets. Gavana akiingia anakua billionaire, hio ni kitu itasumbua, maserikali zitakuja na zitaenda lakini shida zitabaki, hii shida yote ni national government, county government can do it with proper management of resources,” he stated.

Loosely translates to:

“All fights start at the national government. I want to plead with you, support this independent institution, EACC, NIS, so that they follow governors benefiting their pockets at the expense of the mwananchi…..when a governor is elected he/she automatically becomes a billionaire. Governments will come and go but problems will still exist.”

The lawmaker also encouraged the president and other leaders to consider the jobless youth across the Maasai land whenever they are hiring. He explained that employing the youth in the areas is a key step

Kwa hivo tusimame kidete na wapate kazi,” the senator added.

Loosely translates to:

“I will be glad to see our Maasai people secure employment, let’s employ our people. When you look around you will realise that all of them are young, I always say the government will come and go but what will remain is our community and land, therefore we should strive to ensure that our young people secure jobs.”
