The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (Supkem) Isiolo Branch has expressed dissatisfaction with the national office for sidelining it in important matters that require its participation.

Speaking to journalists in Isiolo town, the officials said they were duly elected in office, and it is sad that they were left out in the delegates’ meeting that was held in Nairobi last week, since they did not receive any communication.

“As officials of Supkem Isiolo Branch, we were legally elected on the ground, and we do not know those people who went to represent our county in the meeting as we have been told,” said Mohamed Abdikadir, chairman of Supkem Council, Isiolo Branch.

“As it is the norm, in case of any meeting or event, the headquarters normally informs us through a letter, but of late they have not been sending any information to us nor to other branches. That is discrimination, which will only fuel hatred among our Muslim brothers,” he added.

Supkem Isiolo Branch treasurer Mohamed Guyo said they were shocked to learn that there was a national delegates conference that they did not take part in as the right officials.

“Those who went to that meeting are not part of our team. We do not know them and don’t know who sent them. That is impersonation, which is illegal, and we strongly condemn it,” said Guyo.

Respect leaders

As Muslims living in Isiolo, Guyo noted that they have been relating well and do not want to experience any wrangles between them that will be fuelled by officials from the headquarters.

According to Bilal Ahmed Bilal, youth leader, Supkem Isiolo Branch, it is sad that the leaders from the national office want to create tension and wrangles among the leaders in Isiolo, which will affect their operations.

“Let them do things in the right manner, and if there is any issue that they need us to address, let them reach out to us so that a solution can be found. We have to respect the leaders who were duly elected in office and allow them to do their work,” said Bilal.
