State to give list of facilities denying service under SHA

The government has now vowed to expose medical facilities registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA) that are deliberately denying the public access to affordable and quality healthcare.

Speaking yesterday, Medical Services Principal Secretary (PS) Harry Kimtai (pictured) revealed that a ministry inquiry had uncovered some contracted health facilities actively refusing to use the SHA system.

Kimtai assured the public that the government has taken decisive steps. National Government Administrative Authorities, led by County Commissioners, together with County Executives and technical teams, will now monitor these facilities to ensure fair treatment.

“There should be no discrimination where some facilities demand cash from certain patients while others are allowed to use the SHA system,” Kimtai said at a press briefing in Mombasa. He said the government will publish a list of all the facilities that are registered, asking the public to demand that they be served using the SHA system whenever they visit the facilities.

So far, he said, a total of 7,000 facilities have signed contracts under SHA. Kimtai said he government will soon publish the list of all the facilities that have been contracted and empanelled to provide service under SHA.
