State reviews deals to protect Kenyans abroad

The Government is reviewing labour agreements with various countries to protect Kenyan workers seeking employment abroad, Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary, Florence Bore has said.
Apart from Saudi Arabia, Bore said the government has developed labour agreements with Oman, Jordan, Poland and is in the process of formulating the same with the UK and Australia.
The CS made the remarks as she stated that the Government has already deregistered 26 recruitment agencies for failing to comply with the stipulated guidelines.
“We are doing bilateral labour agreements with various countries so that challenges that have been there will be reduced. We are now reviewing new agreements so that our people are able to work within the timelines, are paid better salaries and be treated well,” said the CS.
Bore made the remarks when she inspected preparedness to host the Kenya Social Protection Conference, to take place at Kenya School of Government (KSG).
President William Ruto is expected to open the conference tomorrow.
According to the CS, there are currently about 700 recruitment agencies, all of which are in various stages of vetting. “In the vetting process, we have discovered there are agencies that are not working, some do not even have directors and as a Ministry, currently we have deregistered about 26 agencies because we called them forth and the directors did not turn up, there were no premises to show so some of these ag
