State puts contractors on notice over unfinished projects

Contractors doing government contracts have been asked to finish projects within stipulated time.
While carrying out an impromptu inspection tour of Kiptogot- Kilongolo water project in Endebes on Thursday, Water Cabinet Secretary (CS) Sicily Kariuki warned government officers mandated to oversee the projects against siding with contractors who delay public projects saying appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against them.
The CS took issue with the delay of Kiptogot Water Project that is only at 50 per cent and its contract period is ending in January 2021.
“Why are you talking like you are the contractor? It is unfortunate when the employer speaks on behalf of the contractor,” she lashed out at the Rift Valley water service board manager engineer Samuel Oruma.
She directed the contractor to put on the ground more teams to finish the work by March 2021.
The Kiptogot water project cost Sh1.2 billion and will serve up to 100,000 people in Endebess and Kwanza sub counties.
The CS was accompanied by her devolution counterpart CS Eugene Wamalwa and PS for water Joseph Irungu.
