‘Playing World Cup will be game-changer’- Starlets’ Halima says ahead of Burundi decider

Junior Starlets midfielder Halima Imbachi is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to feature in the 2024 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup with the national team.

The Starlets are gearing up for the decisive fourth and final round of the two-legged qualifier against Burundi.

Juniors Starlets qualification

A win on aggregate will secure automatic qualification for the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, scheduled for October in the Dominican Republic.

Discussing the potential impact of qualifying for the World Cup, Imbachi emphasized the significance of this opportunity for their careers and personal lives.

"The opportunity to qualify for the World Cup is immense for our careers. The scouting opportunities are immense, and it will be a game-changer for both my life and my family," Imbachi told FKF.

Defender Lorine Ilavonga shared similar sentiments, underlining the importance of the upcoming matches.

"This is a coveted chance, and I am not planning on wasting it. Representing the Kenyan flag means everything to us. The team is completely focused on this final match against Burundi; it’s all we talk about, and we are all aligned on the focus of having a positive result," she stated.

Junior Starlets

The Starlets will begin their campaign with the first leg in Ethiopia on Sunday, June 9, 2024, followed by the second leg at home on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

They are set to travel to Ethiopia on June 7, 2024, for the first leg at the Abebe Bikila Stadium and will return to Kenya on June 10, 2024, to continue preparations for the second leg.
