Speaker Wetang’ula asks Kenyans to be patient as govt addresses SHIF concerns
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called on Kenyans countrywide to enroll for the controversial Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
Speaking on Saturday, December 21, 2024, Wetang’ula said he met County Executives and encouraged them to implore Kenyans to register for the health scheme.
“Today, I urged County Executives to support the Ministry of Health’s initiative to encourage Kenyans to register under the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access comprehensive healthcare services through the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF),” Wetang’ula said.
He also challenged county heads to to allocate a portion of public funds to cater for sensitization and mobilization of citizens.
“Citing Nyeri County as a model, where a significant portion of the population benefits from government-covered treatment costs due to robust public sensitization efforts,
“I challenged governors to allocate a portion of public funds to help in the sensitization and mobilization of citizens effectively,” the speaker added.

Further, Wetang’ula called on the citizens to be patient with the Kenya Kwanza administration as efforts are still ongoing to ensure that all national issues faced by the proposed programs are effectively addressed.
“Additionally, I appealed to the public for patience as the government works to address the initial challenges faced by proposed programs.”
