South B Member of the County Assembly Waithera Chege has lauded President William Ruto, for believing in women leadership.
Chege spoke after the ruling party United Democratic Alliance -UDA announced her to be the Minority leader in the Nairobi County Assembly.
“I thank the entire UDA Party led by H.E. the President William Samoei Ruto, for trusting in my leadership. I also thank my colleagues in the Minority Party in the Assembly for believing in me. It is also a new high for women leadership in Kenya. Truly, going by the list from the Party, UDA and the Kenya Kwanza leadership believe in women empowerment,” she said.
Chege takes over from Waithaka MCA Anthony Kiragu. The party also appointed Nominated MCA Joyce Muthoni as Minority whip.
Muthoni will be deputized by Clay MCA Samora Mwaura. UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala in a letter said a meeting had been held earlier by UDA MCAs where the discussion to remove the former leadership was raised.
