It was song and dance at Gilgil Hills Academy in Nakuru County after the institution produced the best KCPE candidate in Kenya.

Parents, teachers and students shed tears of joy after Magata Bruce Mackenzie emerged tops in the national examination with 428 marks.

The school management attributed the impressive results to working hard and smart, with 20 students garnering over 400 marks.

Praise for teachers

School director Beth Kanyi was full of praise for the teachers and students for putting the school in the national limelight.

Speaking in the school, Kanyi said they had registered over 100 students, adding that teachers  worked hard to prepare them for the exams.

“Magata has always been a top student, disciplined and God-fearing. We are not surprised he is the top candidate in Kenya,” she said.

She added that despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the school had produced some of the best students in the country.

“We are grateful for the support from parents and the discipline from students for these impressive results,” she said.

Join dream school

One of the top students, Clara Nyambura, who scored 420 marks, said she hoped to join Alliance Girls, her dream school.

She added that she wants to be a doctor, attributing  her good performance to support from teachers and parents.

“I thank God for the impressive results; and also my teachers, parents and fellow students,” she said.

Her mother, Magdalene Wambui, said their prayers had been heard, noting that Nyambura had worked extra hard.

“This marks one of the greatest days in our family. We are grateful for the marks and we thank God and the school management for this achievement,” she said.
