Over two million smallholder farmers in Kenya are among millions of growers in the Eastern African region to benefit from €7.5 million (Sh1 billion) Climate Smart project aimed at efficient water production and management.

The project dubbed Climate Smart Water Management and Sustainable Development for Food and Agriculture in East Africa  targets implementation of modern water best management practices and enhancing awareness to farmers on climate change mitigation.

During a two-day Multi-actor WATDEV project multi-actors regional meeting at a Nairobi hotel, agriculture players heard that scarcity or limited availability of water resources and climate conditions severely compromise agricultural production and food security in many of the region’s countries.

Enock Warinda, Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) executive director said Kenya has made strides in terms of development of water best management practices  and equally has registered more  farmers thus stand a better chance of assisting them to access and efficiently use water.
