Simba Arati cancels his Kisii gubernatorial campaigns after Richard Onyonka was allegedly poisoned
Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati has put on hold his Kisii governor campaigns over suspected poisoning of Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka.
It is reported that Onyonka was at a Friday rally in Ibacho, Masaba South when he was allegedly poisoned.
He has, however, been discharged after a night stay at a local hospital in Kisii.
It is alleged that an unidentified man passed a bottle of water to Onyonka which is suspected to have been laced with a poisonous substance.
Immediately after sipping the water, Onyonka spat it out after noticing its strange taste. Moments later, he started bleeding from his mouth and was rushed to Oasis Hospital where he was treated and discharged.
“He is out of danger and is recuperating at an undisclosed location,” Arati said.
Doctors at the hospital said Onyonka could have lost his life had he ingested the harmful substance in the bottled water.
Former Nyaribari Chache MP Robert Monda said they noticed blood oozing from Onyonka’s mouth as he addressed the rally but he later vomited when he sat down. He linked the incident to political rivalry, saying politics should not be a matter of life and death.
“If God meant to have Simba Arati as the next Kisii Governor and Onyonka as the next Kisii Senator nobody can change that,” Monda asserted.
Onyonka had allegedly expressed fears that some political opponents wanted to eliminate him over his political stand.
