Sifuna faults Ruto for abolishing Kazi Mtaani, new cheap unga promise
By evans.maritim, October 26, 2022Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday, October 26 faulted President William Ruto for abolishing Kazi Mtaani and removing subsidy on maize flour.
“Many calls from Nairobi hustlers. No issues with low cost housing. But their priority is food!
“Your God chosen President took away subsidies and Unga shot up. Then he takes away Kazi Mtaani. And asks hustlers to wait 1 year for cheap unga. Three weeks bila food u die! Google it,” Sifuna Tweeted.
Kazi Mtaani program was started at the height of Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 by the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
Speaking in Kibera on Tuesday, October 25 where he launched 4054 affordable housing units, the President said the youth will instead be engaged in construction works in main urban centres across the country.
Ruto on cost of unga
At the same time, Ruto blamed the last regime for skyrocketing cost of unga, saying it will take him up to one year to correct the “mess”.
“I told you we must reduce the cost of living and unga and that journey of doing it has started. I have already reduced the cost of fertiliser.
“We have given our farmers 1.5 million bags of fertilisers and we are planning to give them another six million to increase the production of food.
“This will make the cost of unga come down. Those who increased the cost of unga to Ksh230 did it in four years, but just give me one year to rectify it,” he told Kibera residents
