A somber mood engulfed Bondeni village in Tuwani sub location of Trans Nzoia West sub county Tuesday morning following the shocking incident where a 25-year-old woman was raped, body mutilated and dumped in a thicket.

Trans Nzoia county police Commander Fredrick Ochieng confirmed the incident saying the body of the deceased identified as Elizabeth Wanyonyi had been dumped in the wee hours of Tuesday.

“The deceased who has been identified as Elizabeth Wanyonyi hails from Bungoma and was reported to have been in company of her sister, her husband and another man who is yet to be identified by the police,” said the Police boss.

He said the whereabouts of her sister, her husband and the unidentified man were still unknown and were being sought.

He further said police suspected that the deceased could have been murdered elsewhere and the body dumped in the thicket.

The police boss said depending on the nature of the scene, the incident seemed to have taken place under love gone sour and said investigations had been launched to unearth the people behind the heinous crime.

He appealed to members of the public to provide any information that may assist in tracing the perpetrators of the crime.

The body was moved to Kitale county Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
