Shinyalu MP Fred Ikana says he will commit his full salary for the next five years to philanthropy.

Speaking yesterday, Ikana said his salary would be channelled to his foundation every month to uplift the lives of needy constituents. He said he would not touch even a cent of the cash for his personal use.

Channelled directly

“I have committed my full salary towards charity work and the money will be channelled directly to Ikana Maendeleo Foundation for the betterment of the lives of poor residents of Shinyalu,” he said.

The legislator was speaking in the constituency when he unveiled new officials that would steer the foundation, led by Pastor Bernard Indeche.

The foundation has been instrumental in transforming the lives of residents through initiatives such as education scholarships, shelter, school uniforms and other poverty alleviation programmes.

This has endeared Ikana to the residents, who overwhelmingly voted for him in the August 9 elections.

“I did not seek to become an MP for personal gain but due to my desire to serve my people. This is why I will use all my pay towards this cause,” he said.

He added that he would also fundraise from friends and partners to ensure the levels of poverty in the constituency are lowered.
