Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has hit back at Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen, over his recent remarks on President William Ruto’s critics.

Murkomen, in a lengthy speech on Friday, December 6, 2024, told off Ruto’s critics saying they were chastising him because of his tribe.

But in a rejoinder, Onyonka bashed Murkomen, saying no one cares about the president’s tribe and that the criticism is due to his poor governance.

“Bwana Murkomen, nobody gives a damn on what tribe the President comes from! It is not the tribe that leads him to corruption, retrogressive policies & bad governance!” he said.

Murkomen had called out the media, church and a section of Kenyans over the continuous criticism of Ruto’s administration.

He accused the president’s critics of condemning him unfairly without the facts and claimed that Ruto had accomplished more for the nation at the same time as his predecessors.

“I have seen many people criticising the president and sometimes the criticism that is levelled against President William Ruto is extremely unfair. Being caricatured and insulted, especially if you look at what the president has done in two years, it’s not comparable with his predecessor in their 2-years in office,” he said.

Murkomen accused Ruto’s critics of being tribalists and said it was unfair that the president was being compared to former President Daniel Moi based only on their tribal affiliations.

“I want to say this as an individual here, I find it unfair that many people especially the church, the media and our critics are criticising the president not based on the facts but it’s a criticism that is laced with tribalism.

“I find it unfair that President Ruto is not being compared with Uhuru Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki or Jomo Kenyatta, because of the disease and mentality, every critic of Ruto is comparing him with Daniel Moi,” he said.

Adding;

“As if there was only one president before him. It is unfair to find fault in the president based on where he comes from or compare him with a president from his community before. Let’s compare him with the facts as they are. “

The CS also praised Ruto’s leadership, claiming that he had significantly improved the nation’s economy, he also said he is confident Ruto will lead the nation in the right way and revive its economy if given time to keep his promises.

“Mheshimiwa rais kwa miaka mbili amebadilisha uchumi wa Kenya amabao ulikua unaenda kuzoroteka na mpaka sai tuko inflation imeshuka chini and he is being criticised,” he said.

“We have confidence in Ruto, if we give him the necessary time and criticize him fairly we are going to get proper results for our country.”
