Senator Ole Kina spends night in car after road cut-off
Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina was on Saturday forced to spend the night in his car after the road he was scheduled to use was cut off by floods following a heavy downpour.
The Senator went through the ordeal following the torrentnts that blocked the Narok-Naroosura-Loita road in Narok south for more than two days after River Olomooroj burst its banks, leaving him and several residents stranded.
Ole Kina had been on a tour of county government projects in Loita ward in Narok south sub-county.
Several commuters from Naroosura to Loita and those to Tanzania had to spend the night inside the over 100 vehicles that lined up on the opposite sides of the river till Sunday morning as they waited for the waters to subside,.
Others had to spent the night at the same spot till Monday morning.
“After spending the night on the road from Loita, Narok South, this is what I had to go through (Driving through the tides) to get to my destination. Very dangerous I must say! This road is a @KeNHAKenya/ international road that links Kenya To Tanzania. Please @kipmurkomen consider upgrading this road to bitumen standard for the sake of Kenyans who use this road on a daily basis, but first erect a bridge here,” said Ole Kina while addressing the press at the side of the flooded river.
Other old bridges that have been washed away by the rains include: Enaramatishoreki Bridge that connects Enaramatishoreki to Oletukat and the vital Kimelok Bridge linking Mosiro and Majimoto/ Naroosura wards.
According to the county government disaster team, active efforts are underway to expedite the restoration and repair of bridges that were installed in 2015 and 2018 to ensure the safety and mobility of all residents.
Ole Kina spoke after he staged a fresh fight with the county governor Patrick Ole Ntutu over alleged corruption and mismanagement of Sh3 billion annual ward fund.
The senator on Saturday kicked off a tour of all county government projects implemented through the Sh100 million ward fund in all the 30 wards as part of his oversight role.
He later told journalists that all the projects have stalled midway.
In Loita ward, in Narok South he visited water projects, health centres and markets which are yet to be completed under the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP).
“Over the Weekend, I kicked off my oversight tour of the 365 projects claimed to have been initiated by the county government in all the wards, but when I arrived in Loita , I found all the projects had stalled. Some were not completed despite the ward fund receiving Sh100 million; I need answers over what happened with the money,” said Ole Kina.
Among the stalled projects that the senator toured included five health centres that were allocated Sh40 million in Nkopon, Iltumaro, Olorte, Olmesutie, Ilkerin but are yet to be completed despite the county announcing them to have been completed.
